Sam Altman to Return to OpenAI: What’s Happening?
Sam Altman, the ousted founder of OpenAI, will return to lead the company as CEO under a new board of directors.
In a strange twist of a reverse drama, the co-founder of the leading prolific artificial intelligence venture will rejoin the company days after being ousted. According to a post published on X (Twitter) on Wednesday, the company confirmed that it has “reached a principal agreement for Sam to return as CEO of OpenAI with a new founding board.”
The initial board will be led by Bret Taylor, former co-CEO of Salesforce. Other directors include former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and current member Adam D’Angelo. (The post stated, “We are collaborating to work out the details.”)”
“Altman left OpenAI on November 17, following an unusual company structure that weakened his position as CEO. However, the artificial intelligence entrepreneur soon joined the software giant Microsoft.
Sam Altman, in a separate post, expressed his eagerness to rejoin OpenAI and to build a strong partnership with Microsoft.
‘I love OpenAI and everything I have done in the last few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together,’ he wrote.”
“The company emphasized that the restructured OpenAI board of directors is not the final governing board. Microsoft’s president, Sathya Nadella, stated he was ‘encouraged by the changes in the OpenAI board.’
‘We believe this is the first significant step towards a more stable, informed, and effective governance,’ he wrote.”
