Volkswagen Takes a Step into the Artificial Intelligence Revolution: Introducing the ChatGPT Era in Their Vehicles
Volkswagen‘s innovative steps in the field of technology continue. The company plans to integrate ChatGPT into popular models such as Tiguan, Passat, Golf, and the ID electric vehicle series starting from the second quarter of 2024. This move aims to fundamentally change the in-car experience.
At the core of Volkswagen’s new initiative is ChatGPT, the AI-based chatbot developed by OpenAI. ChatGPT will assist drivers in natural conversations, covering a wide range of tasks from car controls to general information queries. With this integration, Volkswagen strengthens its in-car voice assistant IDA through ChatGPT.
This innovation, which will initially be introduced in the European market, is made possible through Cerence’s Chat Pro software and OpenAI’s advanced language model. However, Volkswagen models in the United States will not be able to benefit from this feature yet. The first examples of the integration will be unveiled at CES 2024.
Prioritizing user experience, Volkswagen allows car owners to use ChatGPT without the need for creating a new account or installing additional applications. The system, activated through the “Hello IDA” command or a button on the steering wheel, promises to uphold user privacy. The company assures that question-and-answer interactions will be held under high-level data protection and swiftly deleted.
With contributions from Cerence’s Chat Pro software, Volkswagen presents this step as an innovation in the automotive industry, aiming to develop a voice assistant capable of answering almost any type of question. This integration is viewed as a bold move by Volkswagen to redefine the in-car experience.
